As a tribute to their musical virtuosity, which made Greatest Hits II one of the best-selling albums in the world, the “tools of their trade” are subtly immortalised on the precious resin: microphone and bass on the cap; guitar and drum kit on the barrel. The album features a broad selection of hits, from rock anthems to catchy pop songs, including A Kind of Magic, Radio Ga Ga, The Show Must Go On, I Want to Break Free and the poignant Under Pressure, a collaboration with David Bowie. Alongside Mercury’s voice, Brian May’s extraordinary guitar playing defined the band’s sound. The writing instrument honours him through the tip’s shape, with a delicate fluting pattern, a small red dot, and an engraving of the album’s release date, inspired by the volume and tone control knobs of May’s famous guitar. The crown worn by Mercury during the closing rendition of God Save The Queen inspired the silhouette of the cap top, symbolising the band’s majestic character and musical legacy. The gold-coated clip is designed to resemble a microphone stand, referencing one of Freddie Mercury’s iconic stage trademarks.
